Crockett is named after California Supreme Court judge Joseph B. Crockett and is located on a Mexican land grant. The town was founded when Thomas Edwards Sr. bought 1,800 acres of land from the judge in 1866. He went on to establish the first general store once new settlers began to arrive. Edwards’ home is currently known as “The Old Homestead.” In 1906, the C&H Sugar Company established a factory in Crockett.
