The SUV segment is a competitive one, which can make it difficult to discover which model will best suit your needs. Here, we take a look at two of the options in this segment — the 2019 Honda Passport and 2019 Toyota Highlander — to help you determine which model is a solid option for you.
Whether you’re taking the kids to their next soccer game or have to commute to work, performance is a factor to consider for your SUV. Standard performance numbers show that the 2019 Passport offers more than the 2019 Highlander. The Passport comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, which puts out 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Standard power for the Highlander comes from a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, which only produces 185 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. That means you will get more standard power when you push the pedal with the Passport.
When you have a family, interior space is at a premium for both passengers and cargo. While the Highlander can seat up to eight passengers, compared to the Passport’s five, it doesn’t compare to the Passport when it comes to cargo capacity or passenger space. The Passport has 50.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and can offer up to 100.7 cubic feet total when the rear seats are folded down. For the Highlander, its cargo capacity when all seats are up is only 13.8 cubic feet. Its maximum cargo capacity also doesn’t compare to the Passport’s with only 83.7 cubic feet available.
If you want to keep your rear passengers comfortable, the Passport also offers more legroom with 39.6 inches compared to the Highlander’s 38.4 inches.
Family-friendly vehicles now offer safe ways to stay connected on the go. For the Passport that means offering available features like Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and CabinControl™ Remote Compatibility, which allow any passenger to control the Passport’s audio and rear entertainment through their smartphone. These three features aren’t available on any Highlander trims.
