While crossovers have risen in popularity, some automakers have chosen to leave their car lineups behind to focus on larger vehicles. But Honda knows that cars have just as much a place on the road as crossovers do, especially when the cars are as impressive as the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback. This sporty ride offers the perfect combination of practicality, comfort, power, and technology while also being more affordable than many of its larger crossover competitors.
The HondaCivic Hatchback is offered at four trim levels: LX, Sport, EX-L, and Sport Touring.
At first glance, you’ll see that the Honda Civic Hatchback’s design is anything but boring. It’s been redesigned for 2022 and offers the perfect blend of style and sportiness. Narrow LED headlights give the hatchback a menacing appearance while ensuring the road is perfectly lit when you’re driving at night. Clean body lines and a minimalist design leave the Civic Hatchback with an uncluttered appearance, allowing its features to shine through. If you choose the Sport or Sport Touring models, you’ll get 18-inch alloy wheels to give the car even more presence on the road. The Sport Touring model also comes with dual exhaust finishers to round off the performance-inspired design.
As you would expect from its sporty appearance, the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback handles like a dream thanks to its range of powertrains for every driver. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. On EX-L and Sport Touring models, you’ll get a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that pushes the power ratings up to 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. A CVT is standard on LX and EX-L models, while Sport and Sport Touring trims come with a six-speed manual that gives you even greater control while behind the wheel.
Inside the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback, comfort is the name of the game. The driver’s seat is height-adjustable, allowing you to find your perfect driving position. On EX-L and Sport Touring models, heated front seats come standard along with a leather-trimmed interior for a premium finish. Sport and up models also have a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob for an extra pleasant driving experience.
Standard automatic climate control on all models means you don’t have to continually mess with the temperature dial to get the cabin to your optimal temperature. Rear-seat heater ducts help keep your back-seat passengers warm or cool as well. And on EX-L and Sport Touring models, you’ll enjoy a dual-zone automatic climate control system that’ll keep driver and passenger comfortable even when their temperature preferences differ.
In addition to its sporty styling and comfortable interior, the 2022 Honda HR-V offers a bunch of practical amenities designed to make life on the road easier. You can keep the cabin free of clutter thanks to available features like a sunglasses holder, front and rear beverage holders, reversible side-pull cargo cover, door-pocket storage bins, and a center console with a built-in storage compartment.
Top Tech Features
The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback has plenty of the latest tech features to keep you and your passengers entertained. A 7-inch touch screen comes standard in all but the Sport Touring model, which increases the size to 9 inches. This screen allows you to control your phone easily through integration with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Bluetooth® connectivity is also standard, so you can play your favorite music or podcasts, or make calls behind the wheel without taking your eyes off the road.
For all the latest technology, choose the Civic Hatchback Sport Touring. This range-topping model has a Bose Premium Sound System with 12 speakers, including a subwoofer; SiriusXM and HD Radio, and the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ with Voice Recognition and Honda RealTime Traffic. Finally, the Sport Touring model has a wireless phone charger so you can ensure your devices are fully charged without needing to remember your cables.
As safety technology has advanced over the years, so has the safety tech in the Honda Civic Hatchback. All 2022 models come with a suite of Honda Sensing® safety technologies, including Collision Mitigation Braking System™, Road Departure Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Jam Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition System. Together, these technologies act as your co-pilot, keeping an eye out for potential issues to warn you to react sooner, or in some cases, act on your behalf if you fail to do so.
Other standard driver-assistive technologies in the Civic Hatchback include Auto High-Beam Headlights and Rear Seat Reminder. The former adjusts your headlights automatically, preventing you from inadvertently blinding oncoming drivers; while the latter helps you remember to check the back seat to make sure you don’t accidentally leave a child unsupervised in the car when you leave. On some trim levels, you’ll also get a Blind Spot Information System and Low-Speed Braking Control for even more peace of mind on your drive.
The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is the perfect car, whether you’re the parent of a young family looking for a smaller option for your clan or an empty-nester looking for a sporty option to downsize from your current vehicle. The HondaCivic Hatchback offers sporty performance, bold style, and versatility, all wrapped up in a compact package. This hatchback is a solid choice in its segment, especially if you’re looking for an everyday driver that is both exciting and practical.
There is only a single engine under the hood of the 2021 Civic Hatchback. This is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that is mated a standard Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), though a six-speed manual is available for the Sport and Sport Touring trims.
While this powertrain setup is essentially the same throughout the lineup, the Civic Hatchback’s performance numbers differ depending on the trim. The LX, EX, and EX-L trims get 174 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. This power gets pumped up a bit with the Sport and Sport Touring trims. When outfitted with the six-speed manual, these trims get 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, while the CVT models produce the same 180 horsepower and get 162 lb-ft of torque.
From its sculpted lines and sweeping silhouette to its driver-oriented cockpit, the 2021 Civic Hatchback reflects its athletic power in its stylish design. LED Daytime Running Lights help increase your visibility out on the road, while the available 18-inch alloy wheels add an edgy touch that complement the vehicle’s design. Inside, the cabin was designed with convenience in mind with its intuitive controls and configurable center storage console.
Practical and spacious
The Civic Hatchback might be considered a compact car, but its hatchback design offers more interior space and a practicality that will help make your day-to-day life easier. This car can fit up to five people with ease, and still allows you to fit up to 25.7 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear. If you need more room, simply fold the 60/40-split rear seats down, and access up to 46.2 cubic feet of cargo space.*
